Villes des Musiques du Monde - Totó la Momposina

A passionate ambassador of the song and dance traditions from her country’s Caribbean coast, Totó La Momposina passed away last May. Paris played a pivotal role in her journey starting in the 1980s: it was where she lived, recorded her debut album, and launched a prestigious international career. Today, Paris honors her memory in Aubervilliers, bringing together musicians, friends, family, and artistic heirs to keep her repertoire alive through music, song, and dance. Among the performers are longtime collaborators Jorge Aguilar and his group Los Embelecos, as well as singer Tato Marenco. Afro-Colombian virtuosos The Almighty Groove will also join the festivities, alongside Senegalese guitarist Tapha Gaye. A special place is reserved for Totó’s daughter, Eurídice, who will take the stage surrounded by the next generation—her own children. It promises to be a vibrant celebration that echoes, more than ever, Totó La Momposina’s cherished motto: "La Estrella es La Música" (The star is the music). >>> Opening act: the collective Rumbabierta, joined by Cuban singer and percussionist El Elegante.
