Description
After a seven-year absence from France, the legendary New York-based Wooster Group is making a triumphant return with *Symphony of Rats*. An immersive and daring experience, blending experimental theatre, music and visual performance !
In partnership with the Festival d’Automne in Paris.
Any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental. A puppet president who has lost all touch with reality is the main character in *Symphony of Rats*. The play, written in 1988 by Richard Foreman for the Wooster Group, was reimagined in 2024. The tone is set, and everything that defines the essence of the legendary New York company’s staging fills the space: amplified voices, screens, suspended wires, videos, and actors positioned close to the audience behind black conference tables. *Symphony of Rats* does not follow a conventional plot. It is an operatic theatre piece in which the sound design and singing emphasise the actions and movements of the bodies in this continuous collage of objects, sounds and dialogue. We are drawn into a parallel world, worthy of a science-fiction film, filled with hallucinatory fragments and surrealist vignettes.
