Description
How do we cope with the darkness? At the Pavillon danse, La Ribot unveils her *Pièce distinguée n°59*, a performance that, as night falls, sends bursts of light shooting into the air. A choreographed ritual to ward off the shadows and ward off misfortune.
Created in 2023 in Geneva, *Pièce distinguée n°59* is part of the *Pièces distinguées* series launched by La Ribot in 1993. In the style of a haiku, each piece emphasises brevity and a concise form, conceived as a self-contained scene or a mini-composition that can be assembled into a series.
Both artistic and political, this long-term project aims to produce around a hundred pieces. Whilst the early works were solo pieces, the most recent ones have opened up to other performers. This 59th piece thus takes the form of a duet with Juan Loriente, a long-standing collaborator, and explores the materiality of light.
As night falls, the bodies, gradually covered in gold paint, transform and come together. Like a dying fire, the performance captures the last rays of the sun to continue to shimmer in the night.
>>> Duration: approximately 17 minutes.
>>> WARNING! Nudity in the performance.
>>> As part of the Pavillon danse with La Ribot, in partnership with La Commune – CDN.
