Description
Luz Arcas presents ‘Mariana’, a piece steeped in rural memories and flamenco song. An intense, embodied dance, fuelled by the vibrant energy of Madrid, blending experimental exploration with powerful stage presence!
Luz Arcas draws inspiration from the female animals of the Spanish countryside—mules, mares, donkeys, goats—which serve both as labourers and as a feature of local festivals. From this vernacular memory emerges Mariana, the third instalment of her Ciclo de los milagros.
Mariana is the wandering gypsy’s goat, trained to entertain; the donkey worn out by labour; the beast that carries, nourishes and endures until exhaustion. Drawing on this figure, the choreographer has created a piece in which the body plunges into an archaic memory, traversed by fear, desire, effort and the élan vital, until it brushes against death.
Surrounding the dancer, five singers and musicians amplify every gesture: flamenco singing, percussion, guitar and palmas transform the stage into a space of tension and catharsis. Blurring the lines between dance, theatre and ritual, Luz Arcas delivers a dense and untamed work, driven by an intense and vibrant physicality.
