Description
350 children from Seine-Saint-Denis took part in a vast artistic and educational project alongside Dom La Nena and Rosemary Standley, the singers of Birds on a Wire. After several months of rehearsals, they gave an exceptional concert!
This project is based on encounters between an artist (a griot or griotte) and hundreds of students from underprivileged neighborhoods. For four months, the griottes participate in the project, placing their musical repertoire and commitment at the heart of a process of transmission and creation where cultures engage in dialogue. This year, the featured duo is Birds on a Wire, composed of Rosemary Standley (Moriarty) and Dom La Nena.
Until June, at their schools, the students learned the artists' repertoire through weekly singing workshops alongside visiting musicians.
At the end of the program, they perform on stage with the artists in a professional setting during a major concert, accompanied by the L’Orphéon Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Clément Rousseau and composed of young musicians from Seine-Saint-Denis.
Initiated in Seine-Saint-Denis in 2008 by Villes des Musiques du Monde, this project continues to spread throughout the country. To date, 18,000 schoolchildren have proudly performed the repertoires of 15 living languages that resonate with the mother tongues spoken in our cities. An exciting project, meticulously organized, and above all, a source of immense enjoyment for all participants, whether on stage, backstage, or, of course, in the audience.
