Description
A leading figure on the noise and power electronics scene, Pharmakon embodies intensity in its purest form. A project by Margaret Chardiet, launched when she was 16, it has now established itself as a radical and visceral benchmark in experimental music.
Emerging from the New York underground scene, Margaret Chardiet has developed, through Pharmakon, a deeply physical approach to sound, situated at the intersection of noise, industrial, punk and sound performance. On stage, she transforms electronic textures and the voice into an intense sensory experience, using distortion, the body and space as tools for direct engagement with the audience.
After a five-year hiatus from recording, Pharmakon returned in 2024 with *Maggot Mass* (Sacred Bones Records), an album marking a new evolution for the project. More openly influenced by industrial and punk, whilst retaining the experimental intensity and cathartic dimension that have made her reputation, this record confirms Chardiet’s ability to constantly reinvent her sonic language.
