Les Archives Nationales

The President of the Republic, François Hollande, inaugurated it on February 11, 2013. This 38 m high and 160 m long building, partly covered with anodized aluminum, was built to ensure the conservation and communication of archives of central state administrations after the French Revolution and private archives of national interest. With 66,000 m² of floor space and 320 linear km of archive stores, this site is the largest archive center in Europe. The 5,400 m² of public spaces and the large auditorium make it possible to accommodate researchers who come to consult documents, visitors to exhibitions, listeners to conferences or shows, as well as school audiences.

The construction consists of two distinct types of buildings:
- a building for administrative premises, conference spaces, public reception areas. It faces the city and the residential area.
- another building which seems to turn its back on the Tartres zone accommodates the reading room and the spaces dedicated to the conservation of archival documents.

The exteriors will be fitted out with water basins and green spaces.

As part of the public commission for the 1% artistic, works by Pascale Convert, Antony Gormley and Suzanne Fritscher will be exhibited.

Free one-hour tours are offered every Monday at 2 p.m., without prior registration. Meet in the entrance hall, opposite the reception desk.
