Sophie Comtet Kouyaté, Marie-Astrid Adam and the Grand Village team invite you to the closing ceremony of the “Canal Saint-Denis, la bascule d’un paysage” project: a photo book, residents’ journal, films and exhibition look back on the years 2019–2024.
Canal Saint-Denis: The Transformation of a Landscape is an art project by Sophie Comtet Kouyaté who, together with Marie-Astrid Adam and in collaboration with numerous residents of Aubervilliers and Saint-Denis, has documented—through four films, 400 photographs and 100 texts—the extraordinary transformation of the neighbourhoods along the Canal Saint-Denis between 2019 and the end of the Olympic Games.
As the Greater Paris project and the 2024 Olympic Games rapidly alter the character of the Canal Saint-Denis and its surroundings, Sophie Comtet Kouyaté invites local residents to document these transformations, to reflect on the environment around them, and to collectively craft a sensitive narrative of it. La Bascule d'un paysage comprises four films, 400 photographs and written accounts produced with young people, adults, workers and local residents up until 2024.
