In Aubervilliers, a housing estate that wanted to turn the vision of social housing on its head. And it succeeded.
Built by architect Renée GAILHOUSTET between 1975 and 1989, the Maladrerie housing estate in Aubervilliers comprises around a thousand homes, some forty artists' studios and a few shops.
In the interests of diversity, the architect entrusted certain parts of the project to young colleagues and former students who shared his convictions. They designed a complex whose spaces and architecture are constantly renewed. Residents and passers-by are invited to stroll through the squares, greenery and covered passageways.
The town has been awarded the "20th Century Heritage" and "Outstanding Contemporary Architecture" labels since 2008.
